What "They" Say
They've always said that the life of a medical student is hard. But, nobody knows until they're actually living it.
It's easy for them to say it's physically tiring. But, do they actually know what sleepless nights feel like on endless shifts, when every muscle seems to be crying, and caffeine's the only measly lifeline?
They say it's for the extreme intelligent, only. But, do they know how much hard work, awkward understandings, feverish re - reads, tired eyes and minds amidst big, scary books for endless hours, actually goes into making one seem intelligent?
Ignorant are they who just casually say it's for the mentally strong. However, the anguish and helplessness of losing a life, or not being able to stop someone's pain especially when it's supposed to be ones duty is something they wouldn't understand.
They think all medicos have a God complex. But both a believer and an atheist know that sometimes, things cannot be under control, cannot be helped, cannot be redeemed.
They say, it's a noble profession, to elevate one's social standing. What they don't understand is this vocation encompasses being both a superhero and a slave for the masses.
Lastly, they believe doctors are infallible, cannot make any mistakes. They forget; we're human too, the best form of magic we can conjure is to try our best.
