Upon One's Honour

It's dark, it's brightly lit
Too many voices, too alone.
Happiness in bursts, followed by segments of bewilderment
Didnt life make sense before?
Wait, where did that go?

So much love to offer and be offered to
Sitting together in a circle; one big crowd
Faces full of glee, sunken, depressed backs
Everyone's talking but the silence is the most loud.

Lost isn't a feeling or a location
For the most outspoken of people, it's a way of life
Soles marked with questionable gravel, a never-ending quest
Where is my place?  Who am I?

Dim corridors with a flickering light bulb
Nameless doors on either side
Searching door-to-door, looking for identity
But we're like ants, we've got to wait in line

Be strong, they said; it makes everyone happy
Say sorry, they said; so that they won't leave
Stop playing with me, an unknown voice proclaims
Freedom to cry, laugh, console and grieve.

One power bank can't charge all the batteries
The grimy black bars of a closed gate
But why don't we jump over it, and run to the Prairies?
Nobody said that it had to be this way.

Lies and mockery, beautifully presented with hugs
Always trying to focus; to be the best player in the game
But what does one count on? Believe in, in the end
Even the two-timing daily tide doesn't stay the same.

Chasing something to hold on to, is like Watson teaching Sherlock
The ways of the mind, solved by SF, the Great
Will they remember me? Will I count for anything?
Or will it be stilted dreams, unfulfilled, or too late?

Heavy rains and the murkiest of storms
Little bits of hope, desperate promises made ,shining
To do what is expected of you, and also what is not
Even an ugly black cloud has a silver lining.

The only way forward is forward, baggage and all
There's dignity in trying to do better;  soul struggles, with utmost care
Times and time will try to sting, so make the best of every moment
We're not evolving.  We're not going anywhere.
